Starting Some Good

Friends,

By now, I hope you are already familiar with the organization I founded, HairFlair for Hope, Inc. This creative nonprofit creates beautiful, one-of-a-kind, fantasy wigs for children and adults suffering from hair loss due to medical illness or treatments, such as chemotherapy.

Our HairFlair wigs are handcrafted entirely through volunteer effort via community workshops. Unlike other medical wig programs, our wigs are donated completely free of charge. To date, we have led over 20 wigmaking workshops and donated approximately 100 wigs to local wig banks and to chemotherapy patients through our outreach partnerships with Childrens’ National Medical Center, The American Cancer Society and the George Washington University Hospital’s chemotherapy outpatient center (Medical Faculty Associates).

We are about to take flight as we grow our wings from a local-based project to a nationwide organization. We have recently incorporated, named a Board of Directors and are in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. We are poised and ready to take our program outside of the Washington, DC area, with local chapters led via remote training and educational support materials.

To help us through this period of growth and financial constraints, we turn to you, our friends and supporters as we launch our first official fund-raising campaign. We have partnered with StartSomeGood, a crowd-funding organization that empowers people from around the world to become social innovators. With your help, and when we reach our ‘tipping point’ goal, we will have enough monies to fund our operations through this transitional period while we achieve our 501(c)(3) status.

Should we reach our full goal, we will have the monies needed to fund our much needed marketing and educational plans so that we can broaden our reach.  In addition, we will be able to add some yarn to our inventory to make wigs that appeal to all ages. Only when we reach our ‘tipping point’ goal will we will start earning the monies pledged.  If not, all pledges are returned to the donors.

Won’t you please start some good and help us grow some HairFlair for Hope?   We thank you for your time and support and we look forward to the beginning of a great campaign.

Sincerely,

Sherri Sosslau
